RENEWAL OF VOWS/BLESSINGS
Imagine how romantic it would be to surprise your other half with a beautiful renewal of vows or blessing ceremony on your wedding anniversary. To love each other enough to want to renew your vows when you have been married whether for a few months or fifty years is probably even more significant than the wedding ceremony itself and is certainly to be admired and envied.
Another reason you may choose to have a religious renewal of vows ceremony is so that you can still have your religious wedding ceremony on the beach/clifftop with beautiful photographs to capture those precious moments but in order to avoid the hassle of the paperwork you have already got married in the UK in a civil ceremony.
Ceremonies can be either civil, performed in Greek by the registrar, or religious, performed in English by the Baptist Church Minister, and both last for about 20 minutes. Both include the opportunity to renew your vows and exchange rings with readings of your choice included as well if you wish.
Religious Ceremonies
A religious ceremony is usually a renewal of vows together with a blessing of the rings and of your marriage.
This ceremony lasts about 20 minutes and is conducted by the English speaking Minister of the Baptist church in Zakynthos.
It is a lovely ceremony where you will be able to renew your vows to each other whether you made them literally yesterday or 25 or more years ago. Takis the Baptist Minister considers it an honour and joy to be asked to conduct a ceremony of renewal of vows between two people who obviously love each other so much that they want to renew their promises and commitment to each other - a rare thing in today’s world.
Takis likes to meet you beforehand in an informal atmosphere over a drink together with Alexandra in order to get to know you a little and to get an idea of how much emphasis is to be put on the religious side of things so that you fell comfortable with the ceremony. You will also have the chance to tell him of any readings or vows of your own or even surprises you would like included. He is a very nice and down to earth man who will make you feel at ease immediately with his sincerity and friendliness.
At the end of the ceremony you will be presented with a signed certificate of renewal of vows as a memento of your special and precious day when you recommitted to each other.
As it is not a legally binding ceremony there is no official documentation required for a religious renewal of vows ceremony although Takis may ask to see your original marriage certificate so please make sure you bring this with you when you come to Zakynthos.
Civil Ceremonies
A civil ceremony is a renewal of vows conducted by the local registrar without the blessing as it is not a religious ceremony. However it is also a very nice option where you will have the chance to renew your vows Greek style with beautiful and meaningful words spoken during the ceremony.
The ceremony is conducted in Greek but translated into English simultaneously. It usually lasts about 15 minutes and again you have the option of adding your own vows and/or readings if you wish. Details such as how you arrive and what music you would like to be played are of course also your decision as it is your special day and will be tailor made according to your wishes in order to reflect the romantic and emotional significance of such a special ceremony.
At the end of the ceremony you will be presented with a signed certificate of renewal of vows as a memento of your special and precious day when you recommitted to each other.
As it is not a legally binding ceremony there is no official documentation but for a civil ceremony you will need to have your marriage certificate legalized and send it to us for translation.
Whether you opt for a religious or civil renewal of vows ceremony it can take place in any of the locations available for weddings including the grounds of your accommodation if you so wish. You also have the opportunity to book any of the special extras such as photography, horse & carriage, hair & beauty packages etc and we can also help you with your arrangements for a reception after the ceremony if you require our assistance.
As it is not a legally binding ceremony there is no official documentation but for a civil ceremony you will need to have your marriage certificate legalized and send it to us for translation.
