As AFM is a tax roll number similiar
to a National Insurance Number or P.R.S.I. number at home. Everyone in
Greece who works (with exception to most seasonal foreign workers) or owns or
wants to buy property, a car, a boat etc and thus has to file tax declarations
- needs one of these numbers. To get this nine-digit number you have to
submit an application at your local tax office.
You can either go personally to your
local Tax Office, but its advisable if you don't speak Greek to have someone
who does with you, or get a local accountant to go on your behalf.
You will be asked to fill out an M1
form. It's a standard form: name, father and mother's name, local address,
occupation, telephone, passport number and a photocopy of your passport.
If you go yourself you will be given your Tax number on the day and there is
no charge. Should you use an accountant he will probably charge you about
30 Euro and you will have it the next day.

or assistance with regards to applying for a Greek Tax Number please just contact
